"And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting."

Mark 9:29

We appreciate you taking the journey with us on this 21 Days to the Acceptable Fast. Isaiah 58 shows us that there is such a thing as an acceptable fast, one that exceeds missing a meal and reflects true devotion. Share The Lamb has resources to help you discover what that is. We pray that once you are finished taking this journey of fasting, you will have matured from time well spent in prayer and fasting in way that will be the catalyst of transformation for your entire year.

There are so many reasons to pause and give ourselves to fasting at this time. Here are some of the things that we will discover as we take this journey.

  • It’s the start of a new year! Fasting (and prayer, as we will discover) is a great foundation for new beginnings

  • Fasting helps us to know and discern the will of God for our lives!

  • We can fast to seek God's help for us and others.

  • We are desiring to draw closer to God, the first part of James 4:8 says, “Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you.” The greatest benefit of drawing close to God in fasting is that he will respond in drawing close to us.

Let's Cover Some Basics

THE FAST WE'RE DOING

A fast is denying oneself or abstaining from something for a period of time. This often comes in the form of abstinence from any food or water (e.g. 2 Sam 3:35), but can also take the form of restricting one's diet from certain foods (Daniel 10:3). However, in any fast, there must first be Devotion and Zeal to please God.  What are you willing to give up? What are you willing to give God to show Him your sincerity? The fast that we are doing is restricting our diet by the guidelines listed below for 21 days.

Can I Do This Fast If I Have Dietary Restrictions?

Everyone may not be able to do the same kind of fast because of dietary restrictions, medications, and other limitations. But that should not stop you from taking a 21 day fast/consecration and receiving the benefits from doing it. If you cannot do the partial fast outlined bellow, whatever you deny and surrender to God, with prayer, for 21 days as a means of fasting, can yield more benefits than doing nothing at all.

Is It Too Late to Join?

Not at all! While our fast will run from January 2 to January 22 2025, if you cannot start on the 2nd or you are just connecting with us, you can start your 21 days anytime in the month of January. The importance is to start your year off with a sincere devotion to Jesus Christ. All our resources will remain available to encourage you as you walk through your journey whenever you start.

INSPIRED BY DANIEL

With that said, There are several ways to fast and this year we are starting off with what is referred to by many as The Daniel’s Fast.

Some scriptural references are: Daniel 1:8, 12, 15 and 10:2-3

"...let them give us pulse to eat, and water to drink."   Daniel 1:12

"I ate no pleasant bread, neither came flesh nor wine in my mouth, neither did I anoint myself at all,

till three whole weeks were fulfilled."   Daniel 10:3

Guidelines

Priority: Vegetables and Fruits ("pulse"), Water

Our Daniel’s Fast consists of eating with certain restrictions: No breads, no meat, no sweets, no sodas, coffee tea, etc. Drinks should consist of water and some natural juices. Avoid heavily processed or sweetened foods and drinks. You can follow this pattern or choose an acceptable fast because the priority is giving up something as a devotion to God and replacing it with a heart of giving and prayer for 21 days.

Share the Lamb Ministries does have a fasting resource that you can request by completing the form at the bottom of the page.

Daniel's devotion to his God, though not a complete fast, was observed by others and yielded great results for his life and success in his business.

  • Daniel 5:12 - "Forasmuch as an excellent spirit, and knowledge, and understanding, interpreting of dreams, and shewing of hard sentences, and dissolving of doubts, were found in the same Daniel..."

  • Daniel 5:14 - "I have even heard of thee, that the spirit of the gods is in thee, and that light and understanding and excellent wisdom is found in thee."

  • Daniel 6:3 - "Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm."

As we embark upon a whole new year, we want to have the best spirit, God’s wisdom and his favor in every area of our lives.
